Midnights Bio

Midnight is 12.2 hand  registered Hackney pony, which translates to 50 inches.  He is a bay gelding and has 4 white socks on his feet.  He will be 11 years old this year.  Midnight is an ex-Hackney show pony and was shown in harness pulling a cart.  We have shown him in a couple of english pony classes under saddle.

Midnight truly thinks he is the king of all the horses at the barn.  He loves the pony mares but his best friend is a 15.2 hand gelding named Snazzy.  Midnight thinks he is "tough stuff",  "all that", "something else", etc...    but he is really just gentle as a kitten and loves attention from anyone.  Midnight actually thinks like a horse not a pony.  He is not mischevious like ponies and is content wherever he is.  He just likes for other horses that are bigger than him to think of him as tough.

Midnight  thinks he is a full size horse and we try not to let anyone tell him he is a pony.  Midnight's most embarrassing moment was when we took him to a horse show with 2 horses and the gate attendant checked the coggin papers against the horses standing in the horse trailer  but didn't open Midnight's trailer window because he was so short in the trailer she didn't see him standing in the horse trailer beside the big horses!

Midnight loves kids.  He really likes for kids to put their arms around his neck or head and just hold onto him, like a bear hug....which is unusual since most horses and ponies don't like this.  He loves being a party pony and would ride 2 kids around all day if he had to.  Midnight loves to trot and walk and he rarely canters, due to his Hackney nature.  He is a big show-off and likes for the mare ponies to follow him around.

Midnights loves to eat and eat and eat.  He especially likes apples, sugar cubes and carrots.  He also likes Root Beer soda, which he dosen't get too much.  He will eat almost any treat or candy that children eat.

(Parents please note:  (Shetland ponies can carry up to 100 lbs. and Midnight no more than 140 lbs.  Part of this is due to the size of the saddles.)
